The number of vacancies in any industry is like a litmus test of its health. It is not news that in the technology sector they are declining due to the tough economic conditions, but this does not mean that companies are massively downsizing their teams, as H512.com’s job board analysis shows. The world is not going to stop pushing the digitalisation pedal, and it will continue to happen thanks to IT professionals, which in Bulgaria will reach 72,500 by 2025 according to BASCOM’s forecasts.
But besides job postings, there is another key indicator that suggests how tech companies are doing, namely how many employees they have in their IT departments and whether their numbers have maintained, decreased or increased over the last crisis year. Before answering this question and finding out which are the 100 companies in Bulgaria with the most employees in IT departments, we make the following important clarifications about the methodology of the ranking:
✔ It is based on data from H512.com’s job board as of the beginning of March 2024, which includes over 1,400 companies offering IT positions in Bulgaria.
✔ This data is officially submitted by the companies themselves and is available at any time in their profiles on the platform.
✔ The ranking does not take into account indicators such as turnover, total number of employees, etc.
✔ Organizations are ranked solely by the number of IT employees in their IT teams in Bulgaria, some of which also include IT support positions.
The majority of companies (67%) develop technology products, 36% offer IT consulting, 31% fall into the “Services” category, and 29% implement software systems. And if the numbers don’t add up, it’s because some organizations are engaged in more than one activity. In terms of their head office, 64% of the employers in the ranking are foreign and the remaining 36% are Bulgarian, with almost all (94%) having offices in Sofia, followed by the other top IT cities in the country – Plovdiv (31%), Varna (23%), Burgas (13%) and Ruse (8%).
And we come to the ranking itself. Two names that may be new to some readers are Eviden and Flutter. They are actually familiar faces. In 2022, French company Atos rebranded its global cybersecurity center to Eviden Global Delivery Center. Today, it has 200 employees in its IT departments, and in 2019, gaming giant Flutter International bought the famous PokerStars, which has 280 specialists in its IT department in Sofia.
Twenty-two organizations in the rankings saw growth in employees in their IT departments, half of them Bulgarian: Nexo, TINQIN, SiteGround, Amusnet, Dreamix, Digital Lights, EGT Digital, Nemetschek, Strypes, Sirma and ICB.
In 2024, there will be more employees in the IT departments of the technology companies in Bulgaria and they will be at least 2158, which is the current number of IT positions on the H512.com job board. There are jobs, and there is a choice of meaningful career opportunities in the sector.
