Nion is the result of a merger between three established Nordic IT consultancies. Together we build scalable software systems that matter – and now we’re growing our team in Bulgaria. We are looking for several back-end engineers to join product teams working on agency-side systems, identity services, and UK transportation solutions.

We are hiring for:

• 3 Senior Back-End Engineers (5+ years experience)
• 1 Mid-Level Back-End Engineer (3+ years experience)

About the role

You will:

• Design, build and maintain back-end services using Java 11+, Spring Boot, and Hibernate
• Work with REST APIs, relational and NoSQL databases
• Build microservices and work within event-driven and domain-driven architectures
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerization and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes)
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers and other engineers across Europe

Required qualifications (for all roles):

• Solid experience with Java 11+, Spring Boot, Hibernate
• Good understanding of RESTful principles and experience building JSON/XML APIs
• Experience with both relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Familiarity with Git, GitLab and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience working with cloud technologies such as AWS
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly in a distributed team

Additional requirements:

Senior roles (5+ years experience):

• Comfortable taking ownership of architecture and design
• Mentoring junior engineers
• Experience with authentication and authorization (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SSO)
• Experience working with secure, GDPR-compliant systems

Mid-level role (3+ years experience):

• Confident delivering features independently
• Open to mentoring and technical growth
• Same stack and tools, but less responsibility for architecture

Work location: Remote-first from Bulgaria, with hybrid work later on.

Team: You will work in international, cross-functional teams with Nordic colleagues
