The Department and the Team:

Global IT provides IT solutions to Milestone business and customers. We safeguard and drive IT Enterprise Architecture, we define IT Solution Architecture, and we lead IT security by defining IT policies and setting guard rails for behavior, acceptable use, and compliance.

Our services include software development, cloud services, cybersecurity, data analytics, Digital Workplace, end-user support and much more. We are committed to delivering high-quality solutions that meet our clients’ needs.

The Infrastructure Services team consists of 10 senior specialists within the IT infrastructure disciplines (datacenter, network, compute, backup, cloud, automation) located in Bulgaria and Denmark. The team is part of Global IT, Enterprise Platform Delivery department and provides the IT Infrastructure services platform at Milestone Systems.

We are looking for an experienced SQL Engineer in Sofia (hybrid mode of work) to strengthen our database deployment and management efforts.

Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities are building and maintaining large, high-volume, high-availability production database clusters on-premises and in MS Azure.The SQL environments of Milestone include classic SQL installations and Microsoft Managed Instances and Azure SQL Server Cloud.

• Database Design and Implementation:
  • Build and optimize large-scale SQL Server database clusters
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance
  • Collaborate with development teams to implement efficient database solutions
• Database Reliability and Performance Tuning:
  •  Optimize queries, indexes, and database configurations
  • Create optimized backup and recovery plans
• Advanced Transactional SQL:
  • Develop and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and user-defined functions
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency
• Transition SQL databases to operations seamlessly
  • Create procedures for incident handling and monitoring
  • Create maintenance plans ensuring „evergreen “and reliable SQL environments
  • Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and processes
  • Act as escalation point for incidents and problems
  • Create procedures to test and validate backup and restore procedures to ensure data recoverability
• Security and Compliance:
  • Implement security measures to protect databases from unauthorized access
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices
  • Participate in audits
• Collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • Stay current with SQL Server features and best practices
  • Share knowledge and expertise with team members
• Automation and Scripting:
  • Develop and maintain scripts for automating routine tasks
  • Implement automation for administrative tasks

How we can match:

• Experience in building and running large, high-volume, high-availability production database clusters
• Experience with database monitoring, debugging, performance tuning
• Knowledge and optimization of advanced transactional SQL, including stored procedures, triggers and user defined functions
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering

Preferred:

• Curiosity for other IT Infrastructure technologies
• Experience with Microsoft Managed Instances and Azure SQL Server Cloud
• Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
