About LabThread
LabThread is a fast-growing B2B SaaS company on a mission to end “lab chaos.” Our story began with the frustration of inefficient processes and scattered data, leading us to build a platform that makes digital lab work easier than paper. We are an agile team of experts driven by a culture of autonomy and meritocracy, united by a common goal: to transform the Life Sciences industry.
The Role
We are seeking a passionate and empathetic UX/UI Designer to join our team in Sofia. You will be the voice of the scientist, responsible for translating complex laboratory workflows and data visualization needs into intuitive, beautiful, and highly functional user interfaces. This role requires a strong focus on user research, interaction design, and close collaboration with our development team to shape the future of scientific software. Your work will directly impact our mission to help scientists achieve their digital dreams.
Key Responsibilities
User Research & Discovery: Conduct user interviews, create personas, map user journeys, and analyze workflows to deeply understand the needs of molecular biologists and lab managers.
Design & Prototyping: Create wireframes, user flows, mockups, and interactive prototypes (low- to high-fidelity) using tools like Figma.
UI/Visual Design: Develop and maintain our comprehensive Design System to ensure consistency and scalability across the LIMS, ELN, Project Management, Plates, Plasmid Viewer tool, and specialized modules.
Collaboration & Handoff: Work directly with Full-Stack Developers and Product Managers in Scrum meetings, providing clear design specifications and assets for implementation.
Testing & Iteration: Design and run usability tests (A/B testing, user testing) to gather feedback and continually iterate on the product.
Requirements
Experience: 3+ years of professional experience as a UX/UI Designer, Product Designer, or similar role, specifically working on complex web applications (SaaS/B2B preferred).
Tool Proficiency: Expertise in a modern design and prototyping tool, preferably Figma.
Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating your process for solving complex user problems, from initial research to final visual design.
UX Skills: Proven ability to conduct user research, create information architecture (IA), and define user flows.
UI Skills: Strong visual design skills, including typography, color theory, and layout, with experience building and maintaining design systems.
Methodology: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Communication: Excellent communication skills in English, capable of clearly articulating design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Additionally, a plus will be:
Experience with Usability Testing tools (e.g., Maze, UsabilityHub) and Analytics tools (e.g., Hotjar, Google Analytics) for post-launch monitoring.
Hands-on experience with developer handoff tools like Zeplin or InVision.
Familiarity with flow mapping/whiteboarding tools such as Miro or Mural.
Experience designing for data-heavy dashboards or complex analytical tools.
Familiarity with the Life Sciences, Biotech, or LIMS/ELN software domain.
Basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML/CSS, React) to facilitate clear communication with developers.
