Python Backend Engineer / Data Integration Specialist

About the role:

We are seeking a talented and motivated Python Backend Engineer / Data Integration Specialist to join our growing team. This role is crucial for building and maintaining the robust API infrastructure that powers our applications and data pipelines. You will primarily focus on developing high-performance RESTful APIs using FastAPI and integrating them with MongoDB.

Additionally, you will play a key role in orchestrating our data workflows using Apache Airflow. This position offers a unique opportunity for individuals who not only excel in backend development but also possess a strong interest in modern DevOps practices, platform engineering, and CI/CD pipelines, involving technologies like Docker, GitLab, and Reverse Proxies.

Key responsibilities:

FastAPI & MongoDB Development (Primary Focus):

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable and high-performance RESTful APIs using FastAPI;
• Implement efficient data models and interact with MongoDB databases to store and retrieve critical application data;
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested Python code;
• Ensure API security, reliability, and optimal performance;

Apache Airflow Job Development (Secondary Focus):

• Develop, maintain, and optimize data orchestration workflows (DAGs) in Apache Airflow;
• Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to build robust and reliable data pipelines;
• Monitor and troubleshoot Airflow jobs, ensuring timely and accurate data delivery;

Platform & CI/CD Interest (Growth Opportunity):

• Actively participate in discussions and initiatives related to platform improvements and infrastructure as code;
• Contribute to the enhancement of our CI/CD pipelines using Docker and GitLab CI/CD for automated testing and deployment;
• Develop an understanding of and contribute to the configuration of reverse proxies (e.g., Nginx, Traefik) for API Gateway and load balancing;
• Proactively learn and adopt best practices in cloud-native development and infrastructure;

Collaboration & Documentation:

• Collaborate closely with frontend developers, data engineers, and product managers;
• Create and maintain clear API documentation (e.g., using OpenAPI/Swagger);
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural discussions.

Required skills & qualifications:

• Strong proficiency in Python;
• Proven experience developing RESTful APIs with FastAPI;
• Solid understanding and experience with MongoDB;
• Familiarity with Git version control (e.g., GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket);
• Understanding of microservices architecture principles;
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Nice-to-have skills & strong interest areas:

• Experience developing and managing DAGs in Apache Airflow;
• Familiarity with Docker and containerization concepts;
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitLab CI/CD;
• Understanding of Reverse Proxies (e.g., Nginx, Traefik);
• Understanding of message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka).
