    Description

    We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic team. As a Senior DBA, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing our organization’s databases, ensuring their performance, security, and availability. You will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our data and supporting our business operations. This position will be responsible for helping define and expand the DBA role at Green Street. You will have the opportunity to work independently, create processes and procedures, and help Agile teams learn how to work with a true DBA. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the growth and success of our organization.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Take full ownership and responsibility for Green Street’s databases, ensuring their optimal performance, security, and reliability.
    • Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks for optimal system efficiency.
    • Create and maintain indexes to enhance query performance and overall database efficiency.
    • Collaborate with DevOps to develop backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into efficient database solutions.
    • Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining database schemas across the enterprise.
    • Conduct regular database maintenance, including upgrades, data purging, indexing, and tuning.
    • Ensure data security and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, providing effective solutions.
    • Maintain thorough documentation of database schemas, procedures, and guidelines.
    • Work with senior leadership to define the DBA function and assist in teaching, and guiding teams toward greater data system maturity.
    • Assist in ensuring database schemas, procedures, and artifacts meet Green Street internal standards, working directly with teams to build expertise.
    • Stay current with database technologies and trends, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.
    • Collaborate with a California-based development team and offshore team members across various time zones.
    • Available for overlap with US West Coast time for handovers and issue triage.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or comparable experience
    • Proven experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on managing enterprise-level databases
    • Strong knowledge of database management systems, such as MySQL, SQL Server, or Postgres
    • Proficiency in database design, implementation, and optimization
    • Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization techniques
    • Solid understanding of data security and compliance requirements
    • Familiarity with backup and recovery strategies and tools
    • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
    • Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to work effectively in cross-functional teams
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

    Requirements

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on Amazon RDS for MySQL and PostgreSQL.
    • Proven track record in managing, optimizing, and securing cloud-based, enterprise-level databases on AWS.
    • Hands-on experience with Amazon RDS and familiarity with AWS tools and services related to database management and security.
    • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a plus.
    • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python) for automation and data manipulation within AWS environments.
    • Strong understanding of database architecture, data modeling principles, and best practices for RDS database deployments on MySQL and PostgreSQL.

    The current offer

    • Hybrid working model – 2 days per week – home office, 3 days per week (Tuesday – Thursday) in our office at Polygraphia Office Center, Sofia, Bulgaria
    • Working hours – 11 am – 8 pm EEST ( 3 days/week) – you need to work with our West Coast US tech team. 9 am – 6 pm (2 days/week)
