    Position Overview

    Our client is one of the largest online retailers worldwide, with annual revenue exceeding £2 billion. Headquartered in the UK, the company is built to revolutionize grocery e-commerce globally. Their custom-designed solutions uniquely address the complex and evolving demands of shoppers while driving enhanced productivity, greater flexibility, and higher margins for grocery retailers online.

    The team is an internationally distributed group of eight, seven developers and a team leader, who are passionate about their work, respect and appreciate each other’s perspectives, and are deeply committed to the domain they manage.

    You will join a growing initiative focused on maintaining multiple microservices that support critical warehouse operations for an online retailer. The team’s scope will expand over time to include additional applications from related domains.

     

    Resoponsibilities

    • Maintain and enhance multiple microservices supporting key warehouse operations for an online retailer
    • Perform security updates, bug fixes, and performance improvements to ensure stable and efficient application behavior
    • Apply configuration changes and update documentation as needed
    • Provide 24/7 support for applications, including handling incidents and troubleshooting both during and outside office hours (extra compensation applies)
    • Communicate effectively with users and other development teams to provide timely support and resolve issues
    • Improve and maintain monitoring and alerting systems to proactively detect and address potential problems
    • Collaborate closely with the team and stakeholders to deliver high-quality, maintainable code and solutions
    • Participate in knowledge sharing and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and applications

     

    Requirements

    • Strong proficiency in Scala 2.13, including writing clean, maintainable, and performant code
    • Solid experience with AWS services and infrastructure, particularly RDS, ECS, SQS, SNS, and CloudWatch
    • Extensive hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including database management and optimization
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
    • Self-motivated and proactive approach with a clear focus on delivering results
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a cross-functional, distributed team
    • Eagerness to learn, share knowledge, and deepen understanding of the business domain and technical stack

     

    Nice To Have

    • Familiarity with functional programming libraries and frameworks, such as Cats, Cats Effect, ZIO, http4s, Slick, and Doobie
    • Experience with Java 21
    • Knowledge of database migration tools like Flyway or Liquibase
    • GitLab for version control and CI/CD pipelines
    • OpenSearch / Kibana for search and log analytics
    • Grafana for system monitoring and alerting
    • Docker for containerization and deployment
