As a Senior Database/Site Reliability Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex database and infrastructure systems. You’ll work closely with managers, architects, and engineers to drive successful outcomes, ensuring best practices in automation, quality assurance, and collaboration are upheld.
What a day looks like for a Senior DB/SRE:
Install, configure, and maintain Oracle RDBMS/NoSQL databases, including data modeling, logical/physical database design, and troubleshooting database-related issues
Develop and maintain SQL scripts, stored procedures, and database tuning for optimal performance
Analyze data requirements from various sources and document system designs and database modifications
Automate repetitive database tasks and manage database-related activities for internal and external clients, including Professional Services support
Ensure system reliability through robust fail-over mechanisms, disaster recovery processes, and 24/7 support strategies
Design, implement, and improve monitoring tools to meet SLOs, ensuring “Monitor by Design” is adopted across product teams
Continuously drive reliability improvements through proactive initiatives, data-driven SLO adjustments, and advanced monitoring/alerting solutions
Lead and coordinate disaster recovery testing exercises and capacity planning to enhance system reliability
Identify and reduce operational toil through automation and tool development. • Apply and enforce security best practices across cloud environments while mentoring team members on SLO achievement
Facilitate cross-team communication, provide training, and maintain clear documentation (e.g., runbooks and procedures)
Support cloud environment management and propose technology changes to improve performance and reliability
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
– They are looking for candidates who possess the rare combination of the following achievements, skills, and behaviors.
7+ years of Database experience, including recent work with Oracle or PostgreSQL.
Experience with Oracle 12/19c versions and features, such as Data Guard, RMAN, and Data Pump
Experience with database migrations, patching, and deployment architecture changes
Strong knowledge of SQL and performance tuning
Experience in scripting languages
Experience with Operation Systems (Linux, Oracle Linux, etc.)
Excellent communication skills
Excellent time management, organizational skills, crisis management, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a team and independently
Willing to innovate, learn, and share knowledge
University degree in computer science or related
Applicable DBA Certifications are a plus
Previous experience with any additional SQL (SQL Server, MySQL, etc.) and NoSQL (Cassandra, Mongo, etc.) databases and multiple cloud provider environments is a plus
Developing and implementing IT security best practices and procedures
