Team Lead (PHP/Laravel/React)

Location: Remote-first (Bulgaria).
Optional office/hybrid for candidates based in Varna (our office location).
Type: Full-time (flexible schedule between 08:00–20:00, BG time)

Alphavision is a technology company with 15+ years of experience in the design and development of websites, mobile applications, and CRM/ERP solutions. Our team builds platforms that automate business and logistics workflows. Our key client is Happy — Bulgaria’s most successful restaurant chain — for whom we have led the digital transformation over the past 10 years. As we expand the team, we’re looking for an experienced engineering leader to drive new initiatives and set a high bar for quality and delivery.

YOUR ROLE

As a Team Lead (PHP/Laravel/React), you will lead two product squads (each ~4–5 engineers) to design and build a new suite of specialized internal platforms—initially focused on logistics and CRM/e-commerce (with substantial ERP capabilities). You will set technical direction, guide architecture, and ensure consistent execution across backend (Laravel/PHP) and frontend (React). You’ll collaborate closely with the team, responsible leads, and managers to turn business needs into well shipped outcomes.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set technical direction and architecture; translate product goals into roadmaps with clear scope, priorities, timelines, risk management, and stakeholder communication; coach engineers (1:1s, feedback) to build a healthy, high performing culture.

• Design, build, and evolve backend services and RESTful APIs in Laravel on PHP 8.x; model data and optimize MySQL/PostgreSQL performance.

• Ensure reliability and scale with queues and workers (Horizon or equivalent), events and listeners, caching, rate limiting, pagination, and capacity planning.

• Drive security and engineering excellence: systematic code reviews, CI/CD discipline, and observability (structured logs, metrics, traces).

• Collaborate with React teams on API contracts and performance/DX; integrate with external services (payment gateways, Google Cloud APIs, external AI models, etc.).

MUST HAVE

• 10+ years of professional software development experience, including extensive PHP 8.x and Laravel experience.

• 3+ years of team leadership (managing/leading squads or multiple teams) with a track record of delivering complex projects.

• Strong hands on backend foundation: database schema design and migrations, query tuning, transactions; plus experience with load balancing and database replication topologies.

• Experience with Redis for caching, queues, and distributed locks; background tasks and queue orchestration with Laravel Horizon (or equivalent).

• Solid understanding of HTTP/REST fundamentals and API design; secure software development practices.

• Docker and container orchestration; Linux know how.

• WebSockets/real time features; GraphQL or gRPC; multi tenant architecture.

• Frontend familiarity (React/Angular/Vue) and strong API first collaboration.

• Experience driving cross functional delivery with product/design and aligning stakeholders.

NICE TO HAVE

• Event driven or microservices experience; message brokers (SQS/Kafka/RabbitMQ).

• Experience with document databases such as OpenSearch.

• Experience with CodeIgniter and maintaining/supporting legacy systems.

• Experience with Python and working with AI models.
