    Position Overview

    You will join a high-impact engineering team responsible for building and operating our mission-critical data platform on Aurora PostgreSQL. The environment supports real-time applications, large-scale transactional workloads, and strict security/compliance requirements.

    Your work will focus on improving the platform’s performance, reliability, scalability, and security, while leading complex database engineering initiatives such as major version upgrades, schema modernisation, cross-region resilience, and zero-downtime migrations.

    This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Database Engineer with administration and development skills to join a small and friendly team of Database Engineers responsible for managing business-critical databases hosted in AWS. The Database Administration (DBA) team is committed to ensuring optimal system performance, reliability, data integrity, and security, while maintaining 24/7 availability of customer data across diverse database platforms.

    • AWS RDS MySQL
    • SQL Server hosted on AWS EC2
    • WSFC
    • AlwaysOn
    • RedGate tools
    • Terraform

     

    Responsibilities

    • Own the architecture, performance, availability, security, and lifecycle of our Aurora PostgreSQL platform
    • Lead end-to-end delivery of complex initiatives: major version upgrades, large-scale migrations, schema redesign & refactoring, performance optimization and tuning, HA/DR design and enhancements
    • Serve as the final-tier escalation point for all Aurora PostgreSQL–related incidents and performance bottlenecks
    • Define, implement, and enforce database standards, security policies, and operational best practices
    • Develop automation, tooling, and repeatable workflows for operations and monitoring
    • Participate in the on-call rotation, conduct deep root-cause analysis, and deliver preventative fixes

     

    Requirements

    • Deep hands-on experience with Aurora PostgreSQL in production (large, mission-critical clusters)
    • Expertise in: Multi-AZ, replicas, replication, extensions, partitioning, vacuum, performance tuning
    • Proven delivery of major upgrades, blue/green deployments, and zero-downtime migrations
    • Strong SQL, PL/pgSQL, Python; automation mindset
    • Solid AWS knowledge: Aurora, IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, Lambda, S3
    • Confident working with sensitive data (GDPR or similar)
    • Comfortable executing production changes safely

     

    Nice To Have

    • SQL Server on EC2 (AlwaysOn, WSFC)
    • MySQL / RDS / Aurora MySQL
    • AWS certifications
    • Terraform or similar IaC
    • Monitoring tools (Redgate Monitor, CloudWatch)
