    What’s the opportunity?

    We’re looking for a Staff Engineer who can own the technical foundations of SURO and, once the product and team are in motion, grow into the Engineering Manager role. If you love building from scratch, mentoring others and still writing production code, this one’s for you.

    This is a newly created role, designed to bring internal technical leadership to a high-priority project. It’s fast-moving, complex, and full of potential – perfect for someone who thrives in ambiguous, high-impact environments.

     

    What you’ll do

    • Lead end-to-end technical discovery and MVP build-out for SURO, coding daily in Kotlin or Go.
    • Design high-SLA, service-oriented architectures that integrate with our ledger, reconciliation and treasury stacks.
    • Work hands-on with a small cross-functional squad (2-3 backend engineers + PM); hire and coach once the product scales.
    • Drive best practices in reliability, security and observability from day one.
    • Collaborate with Product, Finance, Legal and Banking teams to ship features that meet regulatory and compliance standards.
    • Set the engineering roadmap and, over time, transition into an Engineering Manager role while retaining technical depth.

     

    What we’re looking for:

     

    • 7 + years’ experience delivering production software in high-reliability payments, PSP, acquiring or digital-wallet domains.
    • Deep backend expertise in Kotlin or Go and solid knowledge of cloud-native patterns (micro-services, event-driven, CI/CD).
    • Proven track record designing systems that meet strict SLAs and transaction-integrity requirements.
    • A builder’s mindset—comfortable with green-field uncertainty, rapid prototyping and iterative delivery.
    • Leadership traits: mentoring, clear communication and the ability to scale a team, even if you haven’t held a formal EM title yet.
    • Nice to have: familiarity with blockchain concepts or having shipped crypto / stablecoin features before.
